Maintainance funds--one day's problem!

Post by yaq » Thu Jul 14, 2011 8:41 pm

Hi,

I am about to apply for a PSW visa, and have had over 800 in my account for over 4 months now. However, for about 30 hours in May my balance fell to 793. Should I still send in the application? or will it be refused?

Sir it would be risky depending on whether the case worker spots this or not.... im sorry to say but i would not recommend it. Can you wait another month and then print out statements may to august (90 days) and apply then.

Case workers are very strict on checking the maintenace funds. They will check each and every entry for maintenace fund.

If that balance was gone down for minutes, this means that the money come back to your account after that, and the date is not changed with that balance, then you should be fine.

As the balance should be kept the same for 90 days not counting minutes in it.

This is the technical side of this. Now come to ground reality...don't take risk with home office, you better wait for the new statement to arrive.
The question is... to be or not to be....

unless you can PROVE that you had approx 2.15 quid in any other account to bring the total upto 800 pounds(when combined)...... your app would be rejected straight away

second option could be...
convince your bank to issue you a statement which only prints the amount at the end of the day.... so that statement would not have multiple transactions printed for 1st august and only the amount at the end of the business day....

Don't worry, you will be okay. The closing balance on 1 Aug '11 of £807.85 would be taken into account for your application. This is specified in the PSW Guidance. Check point 101 on page 20 - "Where an applicant is providing evidence of maintenance from a single account, we will always assess the funds available to an applicant from the closing balance given on the document provided."

Hope this helps.

The rules also say that the funds have to be held on a consecutive 90 day period. The section you have quoted is referring to when an applicant submits statements from more than one account.

No, I'm not referring to point 102 which refers to statements from more than one account.

Check point 101 again - "Where an applicant is providing evidence of maintenance from a single account, we will always assess the funds available to an applicant from the closing balance given on the document provided."

You are ignoring para 94 which also states that the required amount must be held for a consecutive 90 day period. The rules also state this. Para 101 of the guidance just explains the date from which they will count back the 90 days i.e. From the closing balance. Try reading all of the guidance/rules rather than quoting one para out of context.

IF caseworker has an evidence in front of him showing amount has fallen below 800 pounds in last 90 days.... its a simple decision for him/her to make... i.e. refusal

end of story

Hi guys thanks for your valuable responses, I also heard that maintenance balance should not fall below 800 on any circumstances but i didn't know how much truth is that....

Yeah try to use your other account if possible and write about this in your cover letter. A friend of mine got his PSW refused for a similar reason (his balance fell down by 12pounds for one day) .. He had to leave the country, go back home and then appeal. Eventually his appeal was successful and now he's back.

So, best is to try to show them that on that particular day you did have access to 800 pounds in one account or another and clearly mention it. Since it would make the caseworkers job easier realising that you have accounted for the apparent problem in the application yourself and provided reasoning and supporting documents.

All the best!

complicated enquiry about maintenace fund

Post by ritika » Fri Aug 19, 2011 5:53 pm

hello every one ... iam currently on a tier 4(general) student visa, my husband has also come to the Uk as my dependent . my student visa expires in november 30th 2011.i need to show the maintenance in the bank for 3 months before applying for PSW visa. but my problem is that i have no bank account. the bank account i use , is on my husband's name. he is working here. what i want to know is can i show mine as well as his maintenance in 'his' bank account?if no, then can we open a joint account and show our maintenance in that account together? since i do not have any proof of address in the UK to open an account on my name.or is their any other way.... plz help ...need your opinion urgently since i have only few days left to show the maintenance.
regards

i have the same sort of dilemia........please read & HEL

Post by ukabat » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:46 am

so basically i am on tier 4 student visa. my visa expires on the 30th of september 2011....i have two bank accounts held on my name here in the uk one by hsbc and one by natwest.
i normally use the natwest one and the hsbc is lent to a friend of mine who uses it to get her salary in. i was busy with exam and etc etc i wasn't paying much attention and i ave had balance over 800 pound for consecutively period 66 days in natwest account but i can make the prior dates of 30 in the hsbc account. funny enough the balance was transferred out of the hsbc on the 26th of july into natwest account as my parents wired the money into the hsbc and i transfered it via internet banking.........
so i cover the part of having 800 pound in consecutive for 90 days but in two separate accounts both held by me.
it makes sense to me but would this be accepted and i am planing on making the application in person so i don't wanna waste 981 pound just to get rejected. i rather go back! but also my graduation is on the 31st of october and it would be just easy for me to obtain the visa and stay here till my graduation. so just please please advice me on this and let me know from previous experience and such..........
