Immigration to Ireland and Bankruptcy

Post by CP182 » Mon Jul 18, 2011 10:07 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a non-EU member while my partner is Irish. We have a 5-month-old son together. We have decided to marry and reside in Ireland. I am finding it difficult to understand all of the laws there.

For one, there is a 3-month period you have to register with? I do not require a visa to enter the country, however, I am only permitted to remain for 3 months.

Also, in order to leave, I may be forced to claim bankruptcy here in the USA. How would this affect my right to reside in Ireland as a spouse? I have no criminal background.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!
