My wife just recently successfully applied for a family visit visa to accompany me to visit my brother in the UK and I thought I would share what documents we supplied to get the visa. The visa was ready in 5 working days.
Background: we have been married for 2 months and live in Cape Town, South Africa, from where we also applied for the visa. I am a South African and British citizen and my wife is just a South African citizen. She applied at the VFS application centre in Cape Town and supplied the following documents with her application:
Wife's documents:
Application Form
Passport + photocopy
Itinerary of our holiday
Lease agreement + photocopy (to prove intent to return)
Unabridged marriage certificate + photocopy
Letter of employment (to prove intent to return)
Documents of relative being visited:
Letter of invitation
Photocopy of relative’s passport bio page
Photocopy of relative’s residence permit
Documents from spouse (myself):
Letter of support (to prove sufficient funds for trip)
Photocopy of UK passport bio page
Photocopy of SA passport bio page
Photocopy of SA identity document
Cheque Account bank statement (to prove sufficient funds for trip)
Credit Card Account bank statement (to prove sufficient funds for trip)
Savings Account bank statement (to prove sufficient funds for trip)
Letter of employment (to prove intent to return)
Payslip print-outs (to prove sufficient funds for trip)
Documentation of travel plans:
Return flight tickets from Cape Town to London
Travel insurance policy
