student Visa extension - Is appealing good idea?

Gurus,

a friend who is a genuine student has had his extension of visa rejected - reason being that there is a lapse of 5months since end of previuosd stay....( so he has been advised to go back home and apply from there!)

The strange thing is that the HO knew about his case and requested him to su[pply more information and reapply in country....thats why there was such a delay

Can an appeal succeed?

If you have the right of appeal given with this application then yes you should as trust me entry clearance officers abroad are a lot more stricter then judges here !!!
