Ancestry visa general questions

Post by nicolehamm » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:03 am

My mother has dual citizenship with the UK and the US. My mom's mother is still living in England. I am trying to gain an ancestry visa for the UK and have a few general questions:

1. Do I need to send off original copies of birth/ marriage certificates or can they be copies?
2. About how much does this processes cost?
3. I see that I will have to have proof of financial stability... does that simply mean I have to have a bank account or is there a "magic" dollar amount that needs to be in that bank account?
4. Do my grandparents have to be living to acquire an ancestry visa?

Any other preliminary information would be MUCH appreciated!
thanks for your help!

You do not say what your own nationality is but assuming you are a US national - you won't qualify for a UK ancestry visa as you are not a national of a commonwealth country.

Also, when were you born?
