HMRC tax returns and citizenship application

Post by dream77boy » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:43 pm

Hi everyone
I am new on this forum so pls excuse me if i am asking a question posted here before

I am applying for the british citizenship in december 2011
I am self employed through my limited company and have filed in corporation tax and self assessment for the year 2009/10 but have yet to file the taxes for 2010/11

On the application form , one has to state the most recent tax return

should i file my taxes for the 2010/11 year now before i send in the application or should i wait; as i have till jan 31st to file in the taxes

And even if i do file in the taxes now i am unlikely to get anything back from HMRC till december?

thanks for your advice

hello welcome to the forum!

when you say BC; i beleive you mean naturalisation?

You should be OK file in Jan 12 as it is the deadline - your not doing anythig wrong in using the Jan 12 deadline so wouldnt worry...

I dont think you filing your tax return will be the make or break factor in your application... As long as you have not defaul any taxes in the past, you will be fine!

good luck!!

HI
Thanks for your reply and explanation
Yes
I am applying for naturalisation
Any idea how much time it takes once I send my application
To them to the time I actually physically
Have the passport in my hand

I know it's a process of applying getting approved
Attending the ceremony and then applying for the passport
But generally what is the timeline nowadays??

Thanks
