Have UK ancestry visa - didn't get stamped on the way in

Post by xexers » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:23 pm

Hello,

I have a UK ancestry visa. On my first trip to permanently move to the UK with my new visa in hand, I took the ferry from Dublin, Ireland to Hollyhead, UK. However, it was a Saturday and there were no UK immigration officers anywhere at Hollyhead port - I asked.

What do I do now? I think it was required for me to get stamped. Is it actually a requirement to get stamped?

I am in Oxford, UK now. If I need to get a stamp in my passport, where would be the best place to go?

Thanks!

It should have been stamped but that's how it goes sometimes. Have you kept a record of your entry (travel ticket, whatever) as that will serve to prove your date of entry?

There were no Immigration Officers at Holyhead because you were arriving from within the Common Travel Area, and there is no formal passport control there. Your visa already gives you permission to enter the UK, and as already suggested, to prove your date of entry, if ever required to do so, you should keep your ticket and/or boarding card.
