Working Holiday Visa Conversion to Visitor Visa

Post by misscheekycheek » Wed Jul 05, 2006 12:14 pm

Hi,

I would like to leave the UK for a holiday the week before my WHM visa expires, and return to the UK the day before it expires.

What will happen at Passport Control? Will they issue a visitors visa?

Ideally, I would like this to happen as I am not due to leave the UK permanantly until about a month after my WHM expires.

I have been told that I will need to provide various documents to satisfy immigration, including:

Copy of outgoing plane ticket confirming I plan to leave the UK
Copy of P45 confirming I am not working
Copy of Bank Statement confirming that I have funds to support myself for the remainder of my stay here.

Will these documents be satisfactory for a visitors visa to be issued? I undertand that I can also apply for a WHM 6 month extension while still in the UK but am reluctant to pay the £335 charge for this.

To be perfectly honest I think you will come up against strong resistance from the immigration officer. You say you'll be arriving with one day to go before your WHM visa expires, I think that will be grounds enough for refusal to enter the UK.

Additionally I would seriously not recommend you overstay your WHV, it will only cause problems for you in the future (i.e if you are planning to com back to the UK).

I am not sure about the WHV extension, I though it was not possible to do that at all.

There is no such thing as a WHM 6 month extension. What you are referring to is actually a 6 month further leave to remain (FLR) application as a visitor. This is done in-country by applying to the home office.

I would also seriously recommend you don't try to do what you propose. You almost certainly will be viewed suspiciously and probably denied entry into the UK. Rather apply for the 6 month visitors visa from within the UK.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
