1 ) . C++/Java Software Engineer
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Analysis of new requirements from clients and internal users
- Design, code and test of new functional modules as well as maintaining existing code.
- Prioritise a busy work schedule to meet tight deadlines
- Maintain a commitment to a quality approach to software development
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and give significant input during technical discussions.

Mandatory Skills and Experience
Applicants must possess C++ experience. This may take the form of either:
1. Strong current C++, ideally but not necessarily accompanied by Java skills.
2. Historic use of C++ backing up more recent Java experience and a willingness/ability to come back up to speed quickly in C++.

Developers must also have sound commercial experience of Object Orientated design and development of a number of complex server side applications. The core technology used by the hiring teams are Java, C++ and SQL.

Desirable Skills and Experience
- Server-side applications
- Educated to degree level in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Unix / Linux development environment
- Oracle SQL and JDBC
- Multi-threaded applications
- XML and related technologies (XSL, xpath)

2 ) Systems Engineer, Customer Operations A63-A64
The main job requirements for the post of Systems Engineer – Customer Operations are detailed below, however the nature of the role requires a great deal of flexibility and the ability to react and adapt to new and changing requirements as they arise.
• Experience in one or more of the following technologies would be essential :-
o Digital Broadcast Technologies
o Broadcast Operations
o Conditional Access Systems
o Linux Systems Administration
o Oracle database Administration
o Network Design and Administration
o Broadband Technologies


3 ) Software Engineer / Senior Software Engineer R424
Main Responsibilities/Duties
- Work with others or independently to develop new features for the CI system to:
o Automate testing of new Set Top Box features.
o Support improvements to the software development process.
- Providing a stable and reliable Continuous Integration system including automated building and testing of the Components, Middleware and Full Stack.
- Working closely with the component development and integration teams to resolve problems and improve the infrastructure
- Investigation of problems with the system, identifying and implementing fixes to both code and design.
- Support the improvement of the development process by identifying areas for improvement.

Education
- Degree or equivalent in computer science, electronics engineering, communications engineering

Technical Skills
- Good C development skills (PHP/Perl desirable)
- Experience of SQL databases.
- Experience of structured technical problem solving
- Knowledge of software integration methods.
- Belief in good s/w lifecycle discipline and understanding of the place integration has within it.
- Experience with Linux both on Servers and in Embedded Systems.
- Experience with Broadcast systems desirable.
- Use and/or development of test tools.
- Working knowledge of Version Control Tools, preferably Rational ClearCase

4 ) Software Engineer D2/D3 R418
Main Responsibilities/Duties
- Work within a team of highly motivated developers using knowledge of both software and hardware devices.
- Liaise with other development groups, Project Managers and Systems Architects as appropriate.
- Design of software to meet customer and internal requirements, defining interfaces to other software components.
- Software Component Integration, writing and debugging code.
- Development and maintenance of component code and test harnesses.
- Take responsibility for ensuring that the Software Code of Practice and the Software Development Process are followed.
- Take responsibility for the everyday processing and maintenance of software defect reports.
- Take responsibility for delivery of software features to the committed schedule.
- Track individual defect fixes or new developments against the schedule and provide status reports to the team leader.
- Identify technical changes necessary to achieve a specific customer requirement.
- Take responsibility for the quality of your own code.
- Escalate, where necessary, project and technical conflicts.
- Contribute to product roadmaps.
- Take an active role in personal technical and professional development.

Education Degree level or equivalent

Technical Skills Evidence of practical achievements in the application of one or more of the following skill and knowledge sets –
- Excellent knowledge of applying C in a multitasking embedded environment.
- Use of simulators, compilers and debuggers.
- Linux development and POSIX standards.
- Real-Time Operating Systems.
- CM systems especially ClearCase.
- Design methodologies including CASE tools (UML) and Agile development techniques.
- Defect database tracking and maintenance.
- Professional coding practises and standards, particularly MISRA.
- Software architecture and design.
- Test-driven development.

In additional the following skills are desirable
- STB and broadcast headend systems.
- DVB, XSI, DSS Digital TV standards.

5 ) Software Engineer (Middleware Integration)
Main Responsibilities/Duties
- Making the software work together, often for the first time, including providing fixes for priority defects and providing problem reports
- Working closely with the component development teams to co-ordinate component deliveries
- Providing stable, functional code into the test organisation using:
o Automated testing
o Continuous Integration e.g. Cruise Control
- Investigation of problems, identifying and implementing fixes to both code and design.
- Supporting the automated continuous integration of software components by extending harnesses to cover new functionality
- Support the improvement of the development cycle by identifying areas for improvement.
- To ensure that software updates fix what they claim to fix, and don’t introduce new problems.
- To actively reduce the number of problems discovered downstream of software integration.
- Support investigation of problems observed from full-stack builds, including driver-related issues.

Education
- Degree or equivalent in computer science, electronics engineering, communications engineering

Technical Skills
- Strong development skills (preferably real time C)
- Experience debugging complex problems on Real Time Operating Systems.
- Experience with Linux in Embedded Systems.
- Experience of structured technical problem solving
