An entry clearance is a type of visa. Visas for the UK are applied for outside the UK - what this paragraph means is that you must have applied for the visa before you travel. A non-visa national would not be granted leave to enter at the border without an entry clearance in this category.Anna_S wrote:It is all very confusing...

Here it says this
247. Leave to enter as a person exercising access rights to a child resident in the United Kingdom may be granted for 12 months in the first instance, provided that a valid United Kingdom entry clearance for entry in this capacity is produced to the Immigration Officer on arrival.
Does it mean that to be able to apply for 12 months visa I have to come on visit and apply there?
