Sponsering my UK spouse

Post by abercroft » Fri Jan 13, 2012 7:31 pm

I am a Canadian Citizen. I and my husband live in the UK. He is a UK citizen. We want to retire in Canada. I have been a stay at home wife and mother most of my adult life, and have no money of my own. My husband will have a generous final salary pension scheme from a major UK retailer.
Can I sponser him for PR from the UK, and is the fact that our money is actually his,not mine a problem?
Thanks

I think that what you need to have is an address in Canada. Canada doesn't seem as picky as the UK seems for who earns/owns what. Your joint bank accounts showing your savings which would include his bonus should count for both, I think. It's faster if you sponsor him before he moves to Canada otherwise you might be waiting an extra year.
