I'm looking for a step by step guide to imigrating to UK.

Post by Get_Sirius » Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:40 am

Does anyone know where i can find an online guide to step by step imigrating with a family? My husband and I have 3 kids, and wish to imigrate to the UK perminately. We just dont know how to go about it.
basic questions are...

1) When does he apply for a job? before or after applying for a visa? He works at dell computeres, and i hear there's dell computers in the UK as well. he wants to inquire about a transfer. But does he apply for a work visa first, or after he asks his employers about it?

2) I am on disability here in USA. i know i can't get it there w/out being a citizen, but can i apply for a general or domestic work visa to work there as well? we cannot support ourselves on just his income and NO SSI check... and i know they wont let us migrate over as a family w/out full support off of welfare.

3) how much money do we need to have saved up BEFORE traveling? do we need this money BEFORE we apply for visa???

4) if we apply for a visa, and it is accepted, do we have to hurry and go right then or is there still an option to "back out" if we chose to? i dont want to make a mistake.

5) any advice?

Assuming that you're all non-EEA citizens, then see also Working in the UK.

Start by reading the link posted by Vinny and see if your husband will actually qualify for any visa.

IF dell would be willing to transfer him - then you're looking at a tier 2 intra-company transfer - which requires you to qualify via a points system:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... igibility/

IF he qualifies - you can then apply as his 'dependants' which would allow you to come here and work.

It is a complicated process and you need to keep in mind how much higher the cost of living here is compared to the US - a salary won't stretch as far.

Does the Tier 2 ICT still lead to path of permanent settlement? I thought they'd squashed that?
