As far as i know, if you apply for the retail / static security licence (PSA) the Garda Vetting takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Am not sure how long would it take in the case of naturalization.
Its the matter of fact when the immigration officials send the vetting request to the Garda vetting unit.

There's an office where you can go and vent about the Gardaí?

I've seen a lot of people venting at the Gardaí in the Public Office here in Waterford. That's usually because they won't sign their motor tax forms though.

Only employer or law enforcement agencies can get a garda vetting form and they can contact the above department. We as a general public can't apply for garda vetting and can't go to the office

Although as a general public under FOI any one can apply to see any records the guards have regarding them.

A rather unfortunate typo has resulted in the post sounding like one would like to blow off some steam, rather than one wishing to ask for a character reference.

I think "venting" might have a negative impact on "vetting".

I know the above post might be unhelpful, but I couldn't help it.
