Skilled Worker Interview Prepration: Part 5

INTERVIEW PREPARATION

The interview is one of the most important parts of the immigration process. The applicant is given the opportunity to explain to the immigration officer
-- Who they are
-- What they have accomplished
-- What they intend on doing when they come to Canada.
-- Why they want to come to Canada

The immigration officers are primarily interested in the applicants talking about themselves.

They expect the applicant to be straightforward and honest.

They want the whole picture Don't assume that because you sent in lots of information that the
officer has read it.

Immigration officers are very busy. There has been a large reduction in the number of officers worldwide and as a result they are extremely busy and over worked Remember to speak concisely. Do not ramble but state your points clearly and explain them fully.

How to start...
The officer is interested in you and the first question often relates to your background.
We suggest you start talking about your most recent experience Remember, when selling yourself...
Make sure you have a good attitude. Be positive and optimistic Be friendly and helpful Make the officer like you People remember the
first and last things they are told - start strong and finish strong If you are working now then explain the important facts about your job first
-- Name of company
-- Where the company is located
-- What is the business of the company
-- How many people work at the company.
-- If there are various departments state what department you are in and how many work in your department
-- What is the turnover or gross profit Do you know other information about the company. I^Iakc it sound interesting
-- Explain your position
-- Explain when you started
-- What do you do for the company
-- Do people work for you? Who do you report to
-- What types of things do you do. Be specific. Focus on the more important things. Describe them in a flattering way. Make them
sound interesting and difficult.

After you finished talking about your past then you should start talking about what you want to do when you come to Canada.
You should show the officer that you have thought about what you are going to do Explain what your plan is - you should have one
Make sure you are consistent with your Application. If you said in the Application that your Intended Occupation is to be an engineer then say your are going to be an engineer. Do not say that you intend on studying in Canada unless it is part-time. If you are applying as a independent skilled worker then do not say you are intending to study in Canada. May people say this thinking it will help but it can be the grounds for a refusal by the immigration officer. Once you immigrate to Canada there is no restriction to studying. You may find it necessary to take additional training.

Try and convince the officer that you will be able to establish yourself in Canada There are many ways to explain how you will establish yourself in Canada The officers are primarily concerned with how you will find a job.

What is the Canadian job market conditions for your job? Find out.
