Query - Validity for ILR

Post by pgaitonde » Fri Mar 30, 2012 1:18 pm

According to the BRP reference letter - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... eaflet.pdf
point 3 on page 2 they have mentioned that there will be a validity for ILR of 5 or 10 years. Is this something new or does it apply to certain categories applying for ILR?

Read carefully.
3. Valid until – the date the permit expires.
This date is at the end of the time the holder is allowed to stay; or five or 10 years if the holder has been given permission to settle in the United Kingdom (known as indefinite leave to remain)
It's not the ILR validity but the BRP (similar to driving licenses which are only for 10 years and then need to get renewed with a new photo). Normally, ILR BRP is valid for 10 years.

So after 10 years or so do we need to pay to get a new card of validity of next 10 years or you get the BRP card done free of cost..

No idea although I suspect it won't be free... You will probably need to pay the PO fee again. But who knows if the BRP will still exist in 10 years time.
