spouse of a student

one of my friends was in the UK on student visa. he could not get his visa extended and over stayed in the UK. Home office declared him as illegal and he had to leave the country eventually. now he is banned for 5 years.
my question is, can he come to the UK now on a spouse visa of his student wife. Please help. thanks

Not within the ban period, assuming that his student wife is not an EEA citizen, nor British, nor settled.
